Week 6 “As Jesus Is, So Are You”

From 1 John 4:7-5:4

  • Jesus tells us that there are earthly things and there are heavenly things. Earthy things are subject to heavenly things. (Jn 3:12)
  • He who comes from above is above all. All things are in the hands of Jesus. (Jn 3:31, 36)
  • Today I am here to declare heavenly truths that will change and transform our earthly realities. (2 Cor 4:18)
  • The biblical definition of love is: God is love. (1 Jn 4:7-8)

Love is not our love for God, but God’s love for us in sending Jesus to propitiate God by bearing in His body the punishment due us for our sins, hence satisfying God’s demand that sin be punished.

  • We now share in the life of Jesus. We live through Him. (1 Jn 4:9)
  • We respond to God’s love for us by displaying His love in us to others. We forgive, just as in Christ God forgave us. (1 Jn 4:12; Eph 4:32; Col 3:13)
  • The reality that God now dwells in us and we dwell in God is the perfection of love. God’s love has been perfected and made complete to us. (1 Jn 4:17)

This truth gives us confidence in the day of Judgement.

What is the day of Judgement?

  • The judgment seat of Christ (2 Cor 5:10; Rom 14:10-12)
    • This is for believers/the church
    • Not punitive but for rewards (Jn 5:24; Rom 8:1-2)
  • The Great White throne judgment is for unbelievers those who rejected the message of Jesus (Rev 20:11-15)

Another word for Judgement is crisis, adversity, or scrutiny.

Believers can have confidence in the day of adversity because “As Jesus Is Right Now, So Are We” in this world. Christians should have a vested interest in knowing Jesus and having him exposed to us. We should seek to behold him and to make Him our primary focus.

1. Jesus is down at the Right Hand of Majesty

📖 Hebrews 1:3 (NKJV) who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high

  1. Measure your identity with the Person on the Father’s right hand.
  2. The devil will always point you to you or others (horizontal). The Holy Spirit will always point you to Jesus (vertical).
  3. God is looking at Jesus to assess us, judge us, and favor us.
  4. The question is not “Am I good enough?”, the question is, “Is Jesus good enough at the Father’s right hand?”
  5. Let us have the same “Throne-life” attitude as Jesus.

2. Jesus is our .

📖 Hebrews 4:14-16 (ESV) Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. 16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

  1. Our High Priest is accepted by God, so are we.
  2. Our High Priest is Righteous, so are we.
  3. Jesus is representing us before the Father/Principle of Representation.

3. We are of Jesus’ body—of His flesh and of His bones.

📖 Ephesians 5:30 (NKJV) For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones.

📖 John 14:19 (ESV) Yet a little while and the world will see me no more, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live.

  1. Is there any disease or degeneration in His body?
  2. As Jesus is in His health, so are we in this world.
  3. As Jesus is in his body, without sickness or disease so are we in this world.
  4. As Jesus is young, healthy, and vibrant so are we in this world.

4. Jesus is the and the of God.

📖 1 Corinthians 1: 24 (ESV) but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God

  1. Jesus is full of God’s wisdom and power, so are we in this world.
  2. We should desire to apply the wisdom and power of God through Jesus in our everyday life in business, career, relationships, decision making, etc.

5. Jesus is the .

📖 John 16:33 (NIV)  “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.

📖 1 John 5:4 (ESV) For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world–our faith.

📖 1 John 4:4 (NIV) You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

  1. We have the overcomer Spirit within us.
  2. As Jesus is the overcomer, so are we in this world.
  3. Seeing Jesus leads to transformation.
  4. Whatever it is, look to Jesus!

Perfect love is not our love for God. It is God’s love for us. The more conscious we are of how much we are loved by God in Christ; the more fear dissipates out of our lives (1 John 4:18)

There is conquering power in confessing the word of God that “As Jesus Is, So Are We” in this world. Only through Jesus do we have access to and find favor with God.

📖 Hebrews 4: 12 (NIV) For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

📖 John 6: 63 (NIV) It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.
